Bland, Patricia

Hello My Name Is...

Patricia Bland

I have been teaching in the North Hanover Township
school System for 32 years. I started out teaching the 4 year old  in our Pre-Kindergarten program.  I was the proud teacher of the Big Bird Class.  I then ventured into the Columbia School and became a third grade teacher, I really enjoyed being with these students. It was fun and interesting and challenging, however, I would never take away those wonderful years of experience with my 8 year old.
I then had the opportunity to work with second graders for three years.  Now, those years were challenging and funny. I always seemed to be shaking my head and leaving the the day with a smile and a wow moment. I just never knew what will happen day to day. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised working with these students.
I then transferred to become a basic skills teacher. The program, of course, was changing when I started. We were being introduced to the LLI System (Leveled Literature Intervention) I thought it is a great system. Working with the students and seeing them progress and grow was very refreshing.  In the last two years I have been working with the 1st and 2nd graders in supporting them in math basic skills at the Atlantis School.
I was giving the privilege of the title of Transitional Coordinator. This allows me the opportunity to meet he new students that enter our district after school starts. I am able to have a conversation with the student, and assess them in reading and math. This allows me to help the teacher place the students on the appropriate levels. I am working on sessions where I have the opportunity to meet the parents.

I am a proud "military brat." My father served in the Army for 27 years and  two tours in Vietnam. He married a German woman, my mom. I was born in Germany and
